First: what does “beat” mean? People use “beat” to describe three different things: The pulse: the steady count you nod your head to. The BPM: how many pulses happen in one minute. Method 1: count the BPM manually

Drag the song into your DAW and line up a clear downbeat with the grid. Move forward eight or sixteen bars. If the transients slowly drift away from the grid, adjust the project tempo until both the beginning and end line up. Do not trust one number blindly. Turn on a metronome. The click should stay with the track for more than a few bars. Try half and double. If 75 feels wrong, test 150. Check a drum-heavy section. Play the detected root note under the chorus and listen for stability. The goal is not to worship the detector.
