Lenovo’s Project AeroBlade Fanless Laptop Takes Thin and Light to the Extreme

Lenovo’s Project AeroBlade Fanless Laptop Takes Thin and Light to the Extreme

Lenovo is well-known for its creative, if wacky, concept laptops, usually involving some sort of display trickery. But at the IFA Berlin 2026 consumer electronics trade show, the company showed a proof of concept that actually looks production-ready.

The Project AeroBlade Concept laptop is built around a new active cooling technology from Frore Systems that uses air pressure—instead of fans, heatsinks, and large vents—to expel heat from the CPU. That means thinner laptop designs and quieter operation, and the space savings allow for larger batteries. According to Lenovo, it could reimagine how future high-performance laptops are designed.

Lenovo is the first computer manufacturer to unveil a laptop that uses Frore’s AirJet Mini fanless air-cooling technology. Frore is known for its liquid-cooling tech that’s used in data centers, but the AirJet is designed for consumer computers.

Dubbed the Lenovo Active Flow Thermal Solution, the AirJet module pulls ambient air that’s inside the laptop to create 2,000 Pascals of back pressure (around 124 miles per hour). This high-speed air is then spread onto a copper base layer through tiny jets in the AirJet module, which Frore claims will disrupt the boundary layer that causes heat buildup and throttling. Without a boundary layer, the processor’s heat is dissipated out the back. Lenovo had a motherboard sample from the AeroBlade concept laptop that showed four embedded AirJet modules, located along the top of the laptop.

Frore says each AirJet module can create 10 times the back pressure of a regular laptop fan and can pull and expel air without needing many vents. Lenovo claims the Active Flow Thermal Solution uses the same power as a traditional fan, but it’s debris- and water-resistant.

While Lenovo may be the first to demo a laptop using AirJet, it’s not an exclusive partnership, so we could see other laptop makers employ it.

So Light, It’s Dreamy

With its typical, unassuming laptop design, nothing about the AeroBlade Concept screams that it’s a concept. But at 10 mm thin and weighing 1.8 pounds, you can’t help but think there’s something special. With a magnesium-aluminum body, it’s so lightweight that it makes some of the current lightest laptops, like the Asus Zenbook A14 or MacBook Air, feel downright heavy. I spent longer than I should have just lifting it up and down, and marveling at its portability.

I expected Lenovo to show a non-functioning sample or one I couldn’t touch, but what I demoed felt like a production unit. Indeed, Lenovo told me it’s a “very mature and refined product in terms of sample stability.” The laptop has an OLED screen and USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4.

The engineering sample uses an Intel Lunar Lake processor, which suggests the cooling tech can support higher-performance CPUs, though with support for up to 20 watts of thermal design power (TDP), it may not suit really demanding machines (there is a more powerful version of the AirJet, called the AirJet Pro). We won’t fully know how effective this design will be until it’s in the real world. If it goes into production, Lenovo says that class of chipset won’t necessarily be what’s inside, or whether the AirJet tech will end up in a future variant of the company’s existing laptops and mini PCs.

Lenovo didn’t reveal any details like battery life, pricing, or availability. Still, the product feels so finished that I can’t help imagining an imminent release, especially since some of Lenovo’s concepts have made it into production.

Project Swan

Project Swan 概念

Alongside Project AeroBlade, Lenovo’s wackier concept of the year is Project Swan. Like its rollable gaming laptop that debuted at CES 2026, Project Swan expands horizontally from 14 to 17 inches with the push of a button. The company says it took what it learned from previous projects and refined it. While Lenovo mentions it’s suitable for travel in its press release, at 3.5 pounds, it’s noticeably heavy. That means this model has fewer motors, but they’re more durable. While still very much a “watch this space” product, it’s an exciting showcase of how a compact laptop could provide the visual real estate of a larger machine.
